Tony Hope is Professor of Medical Ethics at the University of Oxford, Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, and Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford. He is married to a general practitioner and has two daughters.
He has carried out research in basic neuroscience and Alzheimer’s Disease. Since 1990 his research has focused on clinical ethics. He founded, and was first director of, the Ethox Centre. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Hastings Center, New York, and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago. He was the first chairman of the Wellcome Trust Medical Humanities Strategy Committee and is currently the chairman of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics Working Party on Ethical Issues in Dementia. He has written over 100 academic articles. His books include: the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (editions 1-4); Manage Your Mind; Medical Ethics and Law: the Core Curriculum; Medical Ethics: A Very Short Introduction; and Empirical Ethics in Psychiatry.
