Research summary

Rebecca Cooper is a Public Health doctor, training to be a Consultant in the UK National Health Service. Rebecca did a Masters in Australia and worked with the World Health Organisation in Papua New Guinea looking at TB surveillance in the Highlands. She then spent a year in Peru doing Community medicine, before returning to the UK to work for an international NGO to advise on their health programmes and subsequently to develop health policy. This work allowed Rebecca to travel and work in Africa and Asia, during which time she developed an interest in the pragmatic application of high level policy initiatives.

In her UK training programme, Rebecca has developed an interest in the relationship between health and socioeconomic factors. Rebecca is currently developing a research proposal, working jointly with Ethox and the University of Sheffield's School of Public Health, looking at why the UK Public Health System has failed to address health inequities and possible alternative strategies for addressing these issues.
