Research summary

Caroline Huang is a DPhil candidate researching the ethical and policy implications that arise in relation to the identification, care, and  treatment of chronic inherited disorders, specifically the BRCA1/BRCA2 gene mutations. Her thesis will involve an international comparison of British and American genetic screening practices and support systems,  such as genetic counseling and post-screening care. Caroline is jointly supervised by Professors Michael Parker (Ethox) and Anneke Lucassen  (University of Southampton), and her work is supported by the Rhodes Trust.

While reading for an SB in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the  Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Caroline conducted neuroimaging research on reading and dyslexia. Her interests in public health and  health policy stem from her experiences founding the MIT branch of Camp Kesem, a summer camp for the children of cancer patients; interning in the office of the late Senator Edward Kennedy; earning her certification  as a Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technician; and coordinating  various student health initiatives at MIT.
